Homosassa sits close to sea level with a high water table — many properties have water just a few feet below the surface, especially during wet season. This creates challenges for drain fields that have less room to filter effluent before it reaches groundwater.
Many Homosassa homes were built in the 1970s through 1990s, which means a lot of septic systems in the area are reaching the age where components start to fail. If your home is in this age range and you have never had the system inspected, now is a good time to establish a baseline.
Regular maintenance is especially important here — the combination of high water table, aging systems, and proximity to protected springs means small problems can become expensive ones faster than in other parts of the county.
